Colorado Fluorite
These Colorado fluorites - in watery pastel greens, purples and blues - are the perfect addition to your collection! They're well formed crystals with cubic faces and octahedral cleavage planes - and occur with smoky quartz and feldspar.
Fluorite's a halide mineral consisting of Fluorine and Calcium atoms (CaF2). Fluorite (in large deposits commercially known as Fluorspar) is also an important source of Fluorine and contributes to everything from refrigerants, to steel making and even parts of your cell phone.
They're a bit more delicate than feldspar and quartz, with a hardness of 4. But these babies were gently exhumed from the rockies, carried down by hand and cleaned by Carl Holzer, life-long Colorado digger.
